AI Systems Engineer – Jäntra Biosystems

SF or Remote

At Jäntra Biosystems, we're building frontier models to predict the quaternary structure of proteins — revealing how the molecular machinery of life fits and moves together. This is work at the edge of computation and biology, where clarity of thought matters as much as code.

We're looking for an engineer who works close to the metal — someone who understands performance not just as speed, but as the elegance of doing things well. You'll help us design and optimize the C++ systems that power large-scale training and inference on GPU clusters, moving from raw molecular data to insights about life's architecture.

What you'll do
  • Build and maintain high-performance C++ infrastructure for large-scale protein modeling.
  • Work with Boost, CUDA, and low-level GPU monitoring tools (nvidia-smi, profiling APIs) to optimize workloads.
  • Integrate our models into scalable HPC and cloud environments (Slurm, Kubernetes, multi-GPU/multi-node).
  • Design robust pipelines for processing and streaming large molecular datasets.
  • Collaborate with researchers to bring theoretical designs into working, reproducible code.
What you bring
  • Deep C++ expertise, with experience in Boost and modern C++17/20 features.
  • Comfort with GPU programming (CUDA) and low-level performance tuning.
  • Strong grasp of Unix/Linux internals, networking, and distributed systems.
  • Experience with HPC scheduling, GPU cluster environments, and large data workflows.
  • Bonus: familiarity with structural biology file formats (PDB, mmCIF) or computational geometry.
What we offer
  • Work that matters — advancing our understanding of life's most fundamental mechanisms.
  • Competitive salary and equity.
  • A choice between working in San Francisco or remotely.
  • A small, collaborative team where ideas travel fast and credit is shared.
  • Space to focus: we believe good work comes from attention, not rush.
Structural Biologist / Bioinformatics Scientist – Jäntra Biosystems

SF or Remote

At Jäntra Biosystems, we are building frontier models that predict quaternary protein structure — revealing how the molecular machinery of life fits and moves together. This is work at the meeting point of structural biology, computation, and curiosity.

We are seeking a scientist who can work fluidly between experimental insight and computational analysis. You might begin the week analyzing cryo-EM maps and protein assemblies, and end it writing Unix scripts to process large structural datasets for our AI pipelines. You will help ensure our predictions are grounded in rigorous structural biology and supported by reproducible analysis.

What you'll do
  • Interpret, refine, and benchmark predicted protein complex structures against experimental data.
  • Use tools like VMD, ChimeraX, and structural alignment software to analyze and visualize assemblies.
  • Write Unix shell scripts and leverage statistical packages (R, command-line tools, etc.) to process and summarize results.
  • Collaborate with our AI engineers to design meaningful test cases and evaluation metrics.
  • Help design experimental strategies for validating predicted complexes, including structure determination and biophysical assays.
  • Communicate results clearly through figures, tables, and concise written analysis.
What you bring
  • Advanced training in structural biology, biophysics, or a related field (PhD preferred, but strong industry experience considered).
  • Strong understanding of protein structure, interfaces, and dynamics.
  • Hands-on experience with at least one structure determination method (X-ray crystallography, cryo-EM, NMR).
  • Previous experience with structure prediction tools such as AlphaFold, AlphaFold-Multimer, or RosettaFold — publications or extensive benchmarking experience are a strong plus.
  • Comfort working in Unix/Linux environments for data processing and automation.
  • Familiarity with statistical analysis tools and scripting workflows (R, awk, sed, gnuplot, etc.).
  • Experience with PDB/mmCIF formats, molecular docking, or protein–protein interaction analysis.
  • Bonus: experience with TypeScript.
